Bluey Day Headshave

Every year some members of the emergency services, professional and volunteer, sign up for a sponsored headshave on Bluey Day for the benefit of kids with cancer and other life threatening illnesses. In 2003 our Training Officer, Eddy Tillotson, was nominated by the devoted staff at Bunnings, Belconnen for the job.

sausage sizzle The Bunnings staff had been terrorising customers for weeks with pictures of the boss wearing a fluorescent green wig on a donation tin. They set up a sausage sizzle on the morning of the big event, and also had various bits of merchandise to sell to boost the coffers. Sutton brigade set up a fire truck, some display boards and bits of equipment to attract attention and a couple of firefighters lounged around looking cool. We don't know who kept setting off the truck siren. Passing kids were tempted with green Bunnings balloons and the smell of cooking onions and snags for some time before the main event. Kristen from Bunnings performed the complex procedure of redecorating a fireman with great finesse and to an amazingly leisurely tempo, which boosted donations enormously during the process. That girl has a career in showbiz! The following pictures need no explanation.

The final result, with Eddy's scone artistically adorned with bushfire scenes including flames, lightning strikes and burnt trees, and the NSWRFS logo covering the top of his head, is still in the camera, but will be added when it emerges. The Bunnings crew raised over $1700 dollars for this most worthy of causes. It just shows what can be done when we all work together!
