Meet the Brigade |
||||||
| Our brigade has about 40 members available for callout and a bunch of other people who help out with various things in the back rooms, so we can't introduce them all, although you will meet a fair number of them in the photographs scattered throughout this site. Here are the executive and senior firefighters of the brigade. | ||||||

President Bill Stoll has been an active firefighting member for many years, and his entire family have served with the brigade. He tends to be the strong, silent type, so his name has not been so prominent in affairs, but he's there on a truck when the call goes out. He has an authoritative air, so he should be able to keep the scruffy hooligans of the brigade in line. This is a better picture than the one I had of the back of his head, but he's still peeping over somebody's shoulder. I think he's just shy.

Captain Rod Simpson is a fine example of multiculturalism and ethnic integration in Sutton, being a commuter blockie who successfully captains a rural fire brigade derived from the bush. His trade as a painter means he gets around the place and gets to know people all over. He even painted the new Rural Fire Service headquarters in Queanbeyan. I think he was just about to say something rude to the photographer at this point.

Senior Deputy Captain John Cooper, another member of a longstanding Sutton family, is renowned for getting to the fire first, even in one of our vintage vehicles, so when we got a new speedy truck, he got it. Many a small incident has been prevented from becoming a big one as a result of his enthusiasm. He doesn't have red hair for nothing. This picture was picked to show his red hair, and because it is the only one where he doesn't have his helmet pulled down over his face.
